Control- to restrain or regulate





 
THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE
tension building- full of denial and minimization for all parties. Increase in aggressive behavior generally toward objects rather than victim. IE throwing things, kicking doors, hitting walls, etc. increase in verbal abuse
acute battering- self explanatory. When the actual abuse occurs.
honeymoon/seduction- after the abuse the perpetrator asks for forgiveness, swears it will never happen again, gives gifts, very attentive

this cycle WILL continue until someone breaks the cycle.


 
WARNING SIGNS OF A VIOLENT RELATIONSHIP
1. Does your partner try to control your behavior, relationships with friends and family? Does s)he refuse to allow you to work outside the home? Try to isolate you in any way?
2. Do you have to have permission before doing anything? Do they dictate what you wear?
3. Is your partner overly critical of you? Name calling, or putdowns?
4. Is your partner insanely jealous or accuse you of things you haven't done?
